With half term beckoning, and a few of the group already on the slopes in Klosters, Cortina etc the remainder headed out for an exceptional couple of visits with and Louisa.
First to the parish church of San Giovanni in Bragora, close the the Arsenal, where the superb painting of St John the Baptist by Cima di Conegliano is on the high altar, and then to the delightful scuoletta of San Giorgio degli Schiavoni, the base for the Slavic immigrant community, decorated by the newly restored cycle of paintings by Carpaccio.
Passing by the magnificent gate of the Arsenal, the shipyards of Maritime Venice we gathered in our favourite pizza restaurant for the annual pub quiz, and the victorious team, wisely named as Charlie's Angels won the highly valued 'golden gondolas'
