not only do we get to visit the extraordinary basilica at night after it's closed (and have the wonderful Patrick Craig sing for us) but our fabulous art historian Susan Steer took the group around the (very cold!) but fascinating Doge's Palace, including the prisons
We ended at fantastic week with a trip to Ravenna, the 5th and 6th century churches and mosaics shimmering and sparkling in the sunshine, stopping off at the 9th century Pomposa Abbey to marvel at the gorgeous frescoes.
