We finally arrived in Rome, it's incredible to think of our journey so far. The heat is piling on, but everywhere we go there's fresh, running water, still coming from the ancient sources that fed the aqueducts of Rome in the many centuries before the birth of Christ.
There wasn't much to do, we checked into the lovely Hotel Smeraldo, had dinner and then Frank Dabell took us on a walk as the sun set. Up from the old setting of the 'bleachers' of the Theatre of Pompey, all the way to the front of it, where Julius Caesar was murdered, through the Ghetto, past the gorgeous Fontane delle Tartarughe and up to Michelangelo's Campidoglio to finish up with a wonderful view of the Imperial forum as a spectacular moon rose over the Palatine Hill
