Feeling a bit worse for wear after a highly 'emotional' last night in Venice, where we had to say ci'vediamo to some of our beloved fellow-travellers, we started our week in Florence bathed in the same glorious sunshine that has blessed us so far on this course.
Masses to see, masses to do.
But first, we welcomed Katie, who had been on the John Hall Course in 2018, a notoriously cold six weeks, that ended with her having to go home from Florence. We told her that she'd be welcome to come back and have those two missed weeks on us, 2019 wasn't good, 2020 was covid, 2021 was covid so in 2022 she is now with us!
Also, Issy Smith from 2020, and Sara Rigby
Gorgeous art, sensational gelato, beautiful weather great food, what's not to like? The spectacular Arno, the delicious gelato at La Carraia ice cream shop (Ricotta and Pear anyone?!)
Michelangelo at the Medici Chapel, where we got to view the chapel as it was designed to be seen, from behind the altar, Benozzo Gozzoli's gorgeous fresco cycle in the Medici Palace, stunning, sensuous 14th century sculpture, and masses more that I never got to photograph, but here's a selection.
Oh yes, and especially for Issy Smith, we got to begin our week on that very spot where, in 2020 I had to call time on our Italian journey.
