Ca'Pesaro - the optional visit

charlie06064

At the end of our first week in Venice there was the opportunity to take a trip to see the wonderful Ca'Pesaro, known at the Museum of Modern Art. Founded in the 1890's to provide a home for emerging Italian artists but also connected with the brand new Venice Biennale, this 18th century palace designed by Baldassare Longhena houses as brilliant collection of Modern Art. Enchanced by private donations (it began by purchasing a piece from every edition of the Biennale) it's like the Peggy Guggen heim Collection but with few people and, if I may dare suggest, with a more diverse collection.

There was a superb temporary exhibition of the great Chilean surrealist, Roberto Matta too
